Citisoft's Steve Young recently blogged for FTSE Global Markets on the talent problem in the asset management industry. A lack of diversity and a culture that shies away from radical innovation tends to deter the newest generation of talent.
"At the risk of making a sweeping generalisation, asset management firms are largely filled with people who look and sound the same, a factor that is stifling innovation. I believe that transformative thinking would be improved through increased diversity. And with too many people leading the industry that are close to retirement age, radical change is not really on the agenda. In addition to suppressing creative ideas, this situation has created an unappealing environment for many millennials."
